I was brought up in the Speyside area of Scotland for 22 years, which has made whisky something of a constant in my life. My parents owned a hotel in the area for 30 plus years and have been involved in whisky tastings, competitions and festivals for much of this time. My mum has written a great little book called “Distinguished Distilleries” and my brother works in the industry, so it would almost be wrong if I didn’t like whisky too.

It’s not just drinking the whisky, I absolutely love going to see the different places where it's made. There are so many incredible distilleries around Scotland for you to visit, each with its own unique story to tell and whisky to drink. With so many to choose from, it may be tough finding where to start, however here is an insight into a few of the distilleries I would recommend visiting.

Glenmorangie

Not far north of Inverness, lies a distillery steeped in history. While at Glenmorangie Whisky Distillery and Glenmorangie House, the whisky tastings and experiences on offer are designed to provide an immersive and educational journey through the world of whisky. Begin your exploration with a guided tasting led by knowledgeable experts who walk you through the distinct flavours, aromas, and nuances of Glenmorangie's signature expressions. You can sample a range of whiskies, from the smooth and creamy Original to the complex and rich Nectar d'Or, allowing your palate to unravel the depth of each dram. For those seeking a more personalised experience, consider booking a private tasting, where you can delve deeper into the history and production techniques behind Glenmorangie's exceptional whiskies.

As for Glenmorangie House, it provides a picturesque backdrop for leisurely whisky appreciation. Settle into the cosy drawing rooms with crackling fireplaces, sample drams of whisky chosen from the extensive collection. Whether you opt for the guided tastings, workshops, or simply revel in the quiet charm of Glenmorangie House, these whisky experiences will elevate your weekend getaway to an extraordinary level of whisky immersion and enjoyment.
